BALZAN YOUTHS FC - TRAINING COMPLEX OPENING
The Balzan FC nursery clubhouse named "Tagliaferro - Borg Training Complex", after Balzan Youths FC Honorary President and Sponsor Mr. Anton Tagliaferro and Balzan Youths FC President Mr. George Borg, was inaugurated on Sunday 13th March 2011 by the Deputy Prime Minister Dr. Tonio Borg LLD MP.
Amongst the various distinguished guests invited, by the Balzan Youths FC Committee, for this occasion were : The Deputy Prime Minister Dr. Tonio Borg LLD MP; the Balzan Mayor Dr. John Zammit Montebello MD ; the Balzan Youths FC Honorary President and main sponsor Mr. Anton Tagliaferro; the club's Legal Advisors Dr. Paul Farrugia LLD and Dr. Trevor Degiorgio LLD; the Balzan Parish Priest Dun Kalcidon Vasssllo; the Civil Architect in charge of the project Mr. Joe Falzon A & CE; the Malta Football Association Chief Executive Officer Mr. Bjorn Vassallo; the Presidents and the Committee Members of all the Balzan Clubs, the club's photographer Mr. Stephen Gatt; all the coaches and players of Balzan Youths FC, ex Balzan Youths FC players and other distinguished members, together with their wives.
The gathering was first address by the Balzan Youths FC president Mr. George Borg who thanked all those present for attending this function. He then went to thank all those who helped in making this dream come through. A special thanks was given to Mr. Anton Tagliaferro who apart from being the club's main sponsor, was instrumental in seeing this project through. He thanked the Maltese Government and the Malta Football Association for their financial assistance. He also thanked Civil Architect Mr. Joe Falzon A & CE, who was responsible for the whole project, for his interest in the project and for his dedicated work without asking for any compensation.
The gathering was also addressed by Balzan Mayor Dr. Zammit Montebello MD, the Balzan Youths FC Honorary President and sponsor Mr. Anton Tagliaferro and lastly by the Deputy Prime Minister Dr. Tonio Borg LLD MP.
After the speeches a commemorative plaque, bearing the name of the complex "Tagliaferro - Borg Training Complex", was unveiled by the Deputy Prime Minister with the help of Mr. George Borg and Mr. Anton Tagliaferro. The plaque was then blessed by Balzan Parish priest Dun Kalcidon Vassallo.
The distinguished guests then toured the complex and at the end a reception was held where all the guests exchanged their greetings and chatted over a drink.
The whole project of the training grounds is still to be inaugurated together with Lija Athletic FC but in the meantime training sessions of all the teams and the nursery are already being conducted on the playing area by both clubs.
The Balzan Youths FC Committee take this opportunity to thank all those who gave us a hand to make this wish come through. This project could not have materialized without the initiative of our President Mr. George Borg who was assisted by Treasurer Mr. Peter Cipriott. The help from our main sponsor Mr. Anton Tagliaferro was instrumental, as he was always there when we asked for his assistance. So thank you very much Anton for your interest and assistance in this project. We would also like to thank the Malta Football Association officials who were involved in getting assistance from UEFA and of course UEFA itself in helping us seeing this project through. Another special thanks go to the Maltese Government for the financial assistance given to us, by the Finance Ministry through the “Kunsill Malti ghall-iSport and the “National Lottery Good Causes Fund” and the Ministry of Urban & Rural Affairs for replacing the fence around the pitch. We would also like to thank all those involved in helping us obtaining this assistance. A special thanks to you Mr. Joseph Falzon A & CE, architect in charge of this project, for his work carried out without receiving any compensation. We also take this opportunity to thank all the contractors involved in this project for their good workmanship.
Now we can boast of having a good standard training facilities, with artificial turf, where all our teams, including the nursery, can operate from.
